Are you ready to become a US Citizen NOW? USCIS Tests are still being given now and applicants are being accepted daily.

This course prepares students to take the United States Citizenship Test to become a naturalized citizen of the United States. You will study the history, political processes and institutions that are designed to make them an informed and effective citizen. Even if you are not ready to take the test, you will learn US History and Government!

Homework is assigned to help students cover all the material. Instructor will supplement with special interest topics, discussions, videos, English activities and more. If some of the homework seems easy – Okay to skip it! If it helps with your English – please do it!

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • You will be able to correctly answer all 100 possible question types used in the citizenship test interview.
  • You will be able to write basic sentences in English that are dictated to you.
  • You will be able to effectively and orally answer the interview questions on the citizenship application form.
  • You will demonstrate a basic understanding of U.S. History, Government and Geography.
  • You will be able to speak and understand enough English to succeed in the Citizenship interview and in life in the United States.
  • You will be able to relate what is in the news to the relevant branches of government.

NOTE: The official testing process itself evaluates your English skills prior to taking the exam. Therefore intermediate to advanced skills are necessary. (Unless you would like to take this class a couple of times for practice – which is OK!) If you are unsure of your skills, enrollment in an English Class at the Adult School is advised. Or email me, Katherine Barg, kbarg@pausd.org, for advice.

This class will also help expand your current speaking and writing English skills.

Students must buy a required textbook for the class.
Please email the instructor Katherine Barg, kbarg@pausd.org, for textbook information.
