Taiko is the art of Japanese drumming, which develops self-expression and musical creativity. This course engages in Uchikomi based practice. Students who join should have a sense of rhythm and/or stamina to hit drums for two hours. Similar to martial arts practice, students do not wear shoes or socks in class. Students practice barefoot. No new students are accepted between October, 2025 and January, 2026. All equipment – including drums & sticks – are provided.

Taiko is a physical activity requiring fitness and stamina. It requires peak physical conditioning and flexible joints and muscles. Individuals with physical concerns should check with their physician before enrolling in this class. All students will be required to sign a waiver of liability. No food or accessories (watch, ring, earring, necklace, and bracelet) allowed in class. No socks and shoes (except Tabi) are allowed in class. There will be a $120 materials fee per six-week session payable to the instructor at the first class to cover the drum heads replacement.
