ADVANCED SPEAKING AND READING AMERICAN STORIES -- TALES OF MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE

You will view, read, and discuss stories of mystery and suspense. These stories will be found on The Moth Radio Hour website and on YouTube versions of Sherlock Holmes tales. Students will guess at the solutions to these mysteries by using plot, pace, character, and setting as clues. The Radio Hour stories will include A Tale of Two Dinners (in which a girl questions her own identity), Undercover in North Korea (in which a journalist tries to hide her identity), and An Impossible Choice (in which a diplomat must decide which people to rescue from the Congolese Civil War). In addition, we will read two classic Sherlock Holmes tales The Red- Headed League (in which red-haired men are paid for meaningless work) and The Hound of the Baskervilles (in which the howling of a monstrous dog presages murders). Do not miss this opportunity to play detective!
