DRAWING WITH COLOR (**NEW**)

This class is for beginners and experienced artists wanting to learn how to combine color with tonal rendering of observed objects.

Butterflies and flowers will be our inspiration.

Bring a #2 pencil, white paper, eraser, and a printout of the class supply list for the first day of class.

Week 1 Review supply list. Pencil value study.
(students only need pencil, eraser, white paper, and supply list)
Week 2-3 Color pencil and pen drawing of flowers.
Week 4-6 Color pencil drawing of a butterfly.

3 Blk 2H, HB graphite pencils, H hardness mechanical pencil (optional)
3 BlkE medium or soft hardness vine charcoal (optional)
3 Blk white vinyl eraser
Tombow “Monozero” eraser (optional)
3 BlkE sandpaper wand (optional)
3 BlkE chamois or paper towels (optional)
3 BlkE 3/8” to ½” wide blending stump (optional)
color pencil colorless blender and color burnisher (optional)
3 Blk color pencil sharpener (Faber Castel) and/or Excel Safety Scraper (razor blade)
bullet point black felt pen (Sakura PermaOpaque (preferred) or Sharpie (non-permanent)
** color pencils: black, gray(s), white, ocher, burnt sienna, raw umber, red, yellow, blue and orange, pink, peach, light blue, earthy green
5 Blk 9” x 12” to 11” x 14” drawing pad
8” x 10” sketch pad or scratch paper
3 Blk container to carry supplies (optional)
4 Blk drawing fixative (optional)
back portfolio to store art (optional)
8c gray scale card
window (top drawer) 2 sheet glassine paper to separate drawings in your portfolio/use as paper mask
back (optional) Strathmore 500 series Velvet Gray or Canson Mi-Tiente “Moonstone” pastel drawing paper

 

** Options other than color pencil: water soluble color pencils, Caran d’Ache crayons, pastel pencils, or pastels

Other optional items: plumb line, pilot SCA-UF black pen to label supplies, Ziploc snack bags, 4”x6” mirror, 18”x24” Masonite panel (or larger drawing board), #4 bulldog clips, 50 sheets of newsprint (“blanket”), camera, eraser shield, 9” x 9” piece of t-shirt to swat charcoal lines, tracing paper, ball pin stylus, scissors, mylar
