FLAG BOOK ON ZOOM (**NEW**)
(Summer 2020: Online Class)

During the current Covid-19 quarantine, this class, and many of our classes are being held ONLINE.

You‘ll work along with me live, via Zoom to create 3 versions of the ever popular Flag Book. The Flag Book is an easy structure that lends itself to endless variations. You’ll have a better experience if you can set up your work surface next to your laptop, desktop, or tablet to see what I’m demonstrating. You’ll be able to ask questions and virtually meet the other students in the class.

Prepare your materials in advance. You will need:

• a ruler
• scissors
• pencil
• bone folder
• white gliue (like Elmer’s or Tacky glue in a squeeze bottle with a narrow tip)
• 3 pieces of 12 by 3 inch card stock for the covers
• 3 pieces 8 ½ by 3 inch resume paper (24-32 lb.) for accordions
• 8 pieces 1 ½ by 2 inch copier/printer paper (20 to 32 lb.) for Flag Book 1
• 18 pieces 7/8 by 2” copier/printer paper (20 to 32 lb.) for Flag Book 2
• 12 pieces 7/8 by 1 ¾ copier/printer paper (20 to 32 lb.)
• 12 pieces 2 by 1 ¾ copier/printer paper (20 to 32 lb.) (in a different color) for Flag Book 3

We’ll start off with basic Zoom protocols and a check to make sure you have everything you need to make your books. I’ll show you how to create a very simple version of flag book. We’ll make a basic cover from card-stock for each book. I’ll demonstrate my technique for folding a precise accordion. I’ll teach you how to attach the flags. Then you’ll learn how to attach the accordion to the cover. The second book is a bit more complex but similar enough that you will build on the techniques you just learned. The third book has a wow factor that will spark your desire to make more! Each book will measure approximately 3 inches by 3 inches– perfect for sending in the mail.
