FLORAL EXPRESSION—IKEBANA SOGETSU

Ikebana is the centuries-old Japanese botanical art, not simply for decoration, but to express movement, space, and feeling. This course introduces the basic principles and techniques of the Sogetsu style Ikebana. Advanced students are encouraged to explore and choose your own containers. Beginning students should follow the curriculum, the textbook, and on the materials being used in the classes. There will be a $125 materials fee payable to the instructor at the first class meeting.

  • Two containers: one Suiban (large. shallow container, 12″ diameter)
  • One TsuTsu (Tall cylinder vase, 12″ tall, 3″ diameter)
  • Kenzan: Needle point holder
  • Hasami: Sharp shears for cutting flowers and branches
  • Flower materials: $25 each week
