When you say “light” and “right”, do people get confused? How about “bet” and “bed”? Do your ‘v’s’ sound like ‘w’s’ (or the other way around)? Learning English sounds can be challenging. Never fear! Your mouth just needs a little exercise! This class focuses on clearly pronouncing specific sounds in English (phonics) for students who want to be more clearly understood. The course is open to all, and all are welcome! However, sounds will focus on those trouble areas relevant to native Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese speakers. Level intermediate-low or higher recommended.
You will need to purchase the Printed Materials Packet and have regular internet access for certain activities. You are also encouraged to bring a water bottle because exercising your mouth can dry it out. *NOTE* This class will not “get rid of” your accent. Accents are beautiful, and everyone who speaks English has one. Yes! Even the teacher! It will, however, help you be more clearly understood in everyday conversations. The same content will be taught in the morning and afternoon sessions. Please only sign up for one session.
Prerequisite: Intermediate-Low or higher recommended
