Woodworking / WOODTURNING: INTRODUCTION TO THE LATHE
Intro to the Lathe (Woodturning)

WOODTURNING: INTRODUCTION TO THE LATHE

The first class of Woodturning modified into a 3-hour standalone lesson. You will learn basic safety, operating a lathe, and using the spindle roughing gouge to turn a simple rolling pin. There will be a $20 materials fee payable to the instructor at the first class meeting. Come and try combining a sharp metal tool with spinning wood on the lathe to create wood shavings and a rolling pin! This introductory class is a modified version of the first session in Woodturning 1 presented in a lightweight format. You will learn the basic parts of a lathe and how to operate a lathe safely. We will practice proper tool technique and body movement with the spindle roughing gouge. Then you will turn a simple rolling pin to take home as evidence of your woodturning adventure!  Face shields will be provided (you are also welcome to bring your own if you have one) and it is recommended you bring at least an N95 mask for sawdust. Limit 6 students.
