Come and try combining a sharp metal tool with spinning wood on the lathe to create wood shavings and a rolling pin! This introductory class is a modified version of the first session in Woodturning 1 presented in a lightweight format. You will learn the basic parts of a lathe and how to operate a lathe safely. We will practice proper tool technique and body movement with the spindle roughing gouge. Then you will turn a simple rolling pin to take home as evidence of your woodturning adventure!  Face shields will be provided (you are also welcome to bring your own if you have one) and it is recommended you bring at least an N95 mask for sawdust.

Student Comments

The Woodturning / Lathe class was my first PA Adult School class. I was interested in learning how to make a wooden bowl and this was the first step. Tina explained the process and safety guidelines well. She was patient and encouraging as I somewhat struggled with this new process. I look forward to more woodworking classes..

I had never used a lathe before. In the Woodturning: Intro to Lathe class I learned the fundamentals of safety, setup, and use. I felt like the equipment components were described fully and I could work independently on beginner level things or replicate what we made independently.
