WOODWORKING PROJECT: BUILD A CUTTING BOARD
(Class limited to 15 students)

Who doesn’t need a cutting board? This short project class will challenge your creativity as you rip, glue, scrape, joint, plane, route, sand, and smile. You’ll end up with an heirloom cutting board, with finger grips, a juice groove, and rubber feet. Your cutting board will be the envy of your friends and neighbors, easily sellable on ETSY for Big Bucks!

This is a “project class”: the class assumes that you are comfortable using the basic power tools in the shop, having completed Woodworking 1. This class does not qualify as a prerequisite for Woodworking 3.

There will be a $30 materials fee payable to the instructor to cover the cost of wood.

• Week 1: Rip strips from various species (maple, cherry, walnut, paduck, sapele, purpleheart) and glue them up.
• Week 2: Scrape, joint, plane, the glue-up; cross-cut and rip it to size, transforming it to a viable cutting board.
• Week 3: Add the finishing touches — finger grips, juice grove, round overs, and so on — finally, sanding, oiling, and adding rubber feet.
