Helena Henkin

Helena Henkin has been teaching English as a Second Language at the Palo Alto Adult School since 2013. Ms. Henkin holds a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of San Francisco School of Education. Her master’s thesis, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Its Relevance in the Adult English as a Second Language Classroom, reflects her commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive learning environments. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes recognizing and valuing students’ cultural backgrounds and experiences as important resources in the language-learning process. She also hold a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in English Language and a TESOL Certificate from the UC Berkeley Extension TESOL program. Throughout her career, Ms. Henkin has taught students from across a broad range of English proficiency levels, from Pre-Literacy through Advanced ESL. Currently she teaches Beginning-Low level ESL students. Her goal is to create a supportive environment in which every student feels respected, valued, and empowered to learn.
