US HISTORY & CULTURE

This class is for students who want to improve their English skills while becoming familiar with many interesting aspects of US history and culture. American culture and history have been shaped by immigration from cultures all over the world. We address why Americans think and behave the way they do and the foundation for some of their attitudes and values such as the importance of competition and hard work. Reading, vocabulary improvement, pronunciation, language usage, and a greater  understanding of American culture and history are incorporated into each class.

Prerequisite: For intermediate high to advanced English language learners.

Student Comments

Knowing the traditional American values could be a great help in understanding this country. Now I can use the concept of self reliance to explain why billionaires and homeless people coexist in San Francisco, and I can understand how Individual freedom allows American women to wear leggings all day long.
